Learn all tenses in English easily with examples



English language has three primary tenses: Past tense, Present tense and Future tense. Each of these tenses can be further divided into four aspects, resulting in a total of twelve tenses. The aspects are simple, continuous (or progressive), perfect and perfect continuous.

Here's an explanation of each tense in English with examples:


PRESENT TENSE

1. Simple Present

   Example: 

     ✓ She walks to school every day.

2. Present Continuous

   Example: 

     ✓ They are playing football in the park.

3. Present Perfect 

   Example: 

    ✓ I have visited that museum before.

4. Present Perfect Continuous 

   Example:

    ✓ He has been studying for the exam all day.



PAST TENSE

5. Simple Past

   Example: 

    ✓ We traveled to Paris last summer.

6. Past Continuous

   Example:

   ✓ She was reading a book when I called her.

7. Past Perfect

   Example: 

   ✓ By noon, they had already finished their work.

8. Past Perfect Continuous

   Example:

   ✓  I had been working on the project for weeks before it was completed.



FUTURE TENSE

9. Simple Future

   Example: 

   ✓ They will arrive at the airport at 3 PM.

10. Future Continuous

   Example: 

   ✓ At this time tomorrow, I will be giving a presentation.

11. Future Perfect 

   Example:

   ✓ By next year, she will have graduated from college.

12. Future Perfect Continuous

   Example: 

   ✓ By the time you arrive, I will have been waiting for an hour.

Each tense conveys different time relationships and is used to describe actions or states in various contexts.
